Backstory

GROOT was born out of necessity. After my 2015 Tundra was totaled in a 65mph collision with an elk, I needed a new workhorse. Enter a stock 2024 Tundra with the TRD Off-Road package, with the upgraded towing capacity, and giant wings (I mean tow mirrors) hes the perfect foundation for what would become CEV’s modern hauler and showcase modern build.

 

Upgrades & Modifications

  • Suspension & Lift: Wescott body level and lift kit, upgraded FOX suspension

  • Tires: Upgrade from 31″ stock to 35” BFGoorich K02’s for clearance and trail capability

  • Armor & Protection:

    • CBI Offroad front & rear steel bumpers

    • Badlands winch for recovery

  • Rack & Camping: Heavy Metal Offroad bed rack + GFC Superlite RTT

  • Lighting: Baja Designs lighting  with integrated controller

  • Branding: CEV badging, personal plates 

 

Role at CEV

GROOT isn’t just a build for fun — he’s the workhorse of the shop.

  • Tows classic vehicles to and from the shop and customer sites

  • Hauled trailers and parts during the CEV shop move and house move from steamboat

  • Handles recovery and transport duties for heavy loads

  • Still gets out into the wilderness on weekends to take a beating and play hard

Future Plans

  • Use as a rolling billboard around Fort Collins to get the word out about the brand

  • Replace/ upgrade suspension after over-compressing the bed springs during the move (OOPS)

  • Load Responsive Air Bags

  • On board Air

  • White Knuckle Off Road Sliders to replace the Predator Steps that I tore apart on a particularly challenging and unplanned 4×4 adventure
